In 2015, I wrote a children’s book about Henry. Meet Henry. He’s the new bug in town. Henry isn’t like the other bugs. But despite being different, Henry learns how to fit in at his new school and even befriends a grasshopper named Nathan.

When their teacher Ms. Flutters announces the first annual Grassy Meadows Elementary School musical, Henry and Nathan set out to find Henry’s hidden talent. With a little determination and the help of a new friend, Henry proves to everyone but more importantly to himself, that he can be part of the show.

Children of all ages and abilities will take delight in this story of friendship and perseverance.  The adorable illustrations help to bring the bugs and Grassy Meadows to life while sparking their imagination. Keep dreaming big, Henry!

At the age of two, my daughter Katie began having seizures. After her
rare diagnosis, we began an unexpected journey that eventually lead brain surgery. A procedure called a hemispherectomy is a drastic
option but it became Katie’s only option. We are grateful for the surgery
but new challenges arise after the incision heals and the doctors don’t
send you home with an instruction manual. For Katie and other’s like
her, knowledge is power. That knowledge comes from research and funding.

A portion of the proceeds of this book went to a foundation started
with Brad and Monika Jones, fellow parents of a child like my Katie.
The dedication to helping their son Henry and the rest of us battling
this lifelong journey to recovery for our children is unmatched. The Brain Recovery Project is paving the way for our children’s future by funding
ground-breaking research to help write that “instruction manual” on
how to rehabilitate children like Katie and Henry so they both can
